2025: The Year I Cried, Laughed, and Accidentally Took Some of My Favourite Photos Ever

If you’d told me at the start of 2025 that I’d be writing a blog round-up feeling proud, a little emotional, and surprisingly okay with saying “yeah, I’m actually quite good at this”… I’d have laughed and gone back to editing in my pyjamas.

But here we are.

2025 was loud and quiet. Emotional and chaotic. Full of proper belly laughs, happy tears, and a few “what on earth am I doing” moments thrown in for balance. And somehow, in between all of that, I got to photograph some of the most honest, joyful, beautifully real weddings I’ve ever been part of.

So here it is. The highs. The lows. The funny bits. And a small attempt at not brushing off the nice things people said (growth).

The Highs (Because There Were So Many)

This year was packed with weddings that felt like something. Not just pretty details (though there were plenty), but proper, chest-tightening, goosebump moments.

Vows that had everyone in bits.

Dance floors that started early and never really stopped.

Couples who did things their way… Muddy shoes, outdoor ceremonies, bubble guns, little fury friends stealing the show.

There were venues I’ll always love, new places that surprised me, and moments where I genuinely forgot I was “working” because I was too busy grinning behind the camera.

Creatively, something clicked. I trusted my instincts more. I leaned harder into movement, emotion, and the in-between moments. Less “stand here,” more “be exactly who you are.” Future-me is already very grateful for that.

The Lows (Because Let’s Be Honest)

It wouldn’t be a real round-up without acknowledging the wobbles.

There were long weeks. Very long editing days. Moments of comparison I had to actively tell to get in the bin. A few weddings where nothing went to plan… Weather, timelines, energy levels (pick a combo).

And there were days where running your own business felt heavy. Where imposter syndrome tapped me on the shoulder and said, “Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”

(Reader: I do. But it still tries.)

The Funny Bits (AKA My Favourite Category)

The speeches. Oh my god, the speeches.

From absolutely unhinged best men to dads discovering microphones are louder than they think… You never disappoint me.

I saw:

• Champagne sprayed with zero warning.

• Everyone armed with fists full of confetti ready to launch.

• Dance moves that should probably stay undocumented (but didn’t).

• At least one wedding where the dog got more attention than the couple (no regrets).

If laughter is a love language, 2025 was fluent.

The “Apparently I’m Actually Okay With a Camera” Bit

This is the part I usually rush past. But not this time.

Because this year, couples sent messages that stopped me in my tracks.

They told me they felt relaxed. That they forgot I was there. That their photos felt like them. That they cried (in a good way). That they felt safe, seen, and understood.

And I think that’s the thing I’m proudest of.

Yes, the photos matter… Obviously. But the experience matters just as much. Being the calm presence in the chaos. The person who notices the quiet moments as well as the loud ones. The one who lets you be fully yourself, without performing for the camera.

I don’t love blowing my own trumpet. But I will say this: I care deeply. I work bloody hard. And I think I’m doing something right.

Looking Ahead

If 2025 taught me anything, it’s that the best moments can’t be forced. They just need space to happen.

So going into 2026, I’m leaning even further into that. More feeling. More movement. More real. Less perfection, more connection (ooooo that unintentionally rhymes….!)

To every couple who trusted me this year… Thank you. Truly.

You let me do the job I love, in the way I love doing it.

And if future-you is reading this…

Yeah. You were right to choose the photographer who got it.

Here’s to more love, more chaos, and more moments worth remembering.
